Settings on the fly

Using sensors in audiovisual applications often requires custom prototypes that are complex, fragile, and not flexible. Even minor changes can require reprogramming, which disrupts creative flow. Pipo changes that.

Each Pipo module hosts its own graphical, web-based user interface. There’s no need for a separate app—just connect from any Wi-Fi device. No internet connection required, no apps, no software lock-in.

You can adjust input and output ranges, choose output protocols, view live sensor data, and save multiple configurations—all in the field, on the fly.

Plug and play

Pipo comes preconfigured and ready to use. Just connect to start receiving data and testing new ideas.
Each module uses carefully chosen sensors and pre-processes their data to generate easy to use outputs.
Pipo supports data transmission via USB (MIDI), Bluetooth Low Energy (MIDI), or Wi-Fi (OSC).

Default configurations are preloaded for quick setup.
Pipo works with any OS and does not require any specific driver. You can use them with Ableton Live, TouchDesigner, Max, MadMapper, Bespoke, Pure Data, Isadora, VCV Rack, and many more…

Pipo Motion: Gyroscope, accelerometer, and magnetometer

Pipo Motion is designed for movement sensing.
It uses a high-performance 9-axis IMU for absolute or relative orientation data.

You can use it handheld, embedded in objects, or attached wherever you like. It captures orientation, taps, vibrations, magnetic fields and more. (Quaternion output is available on OSC for optimal 3D control).
Pipo Motion is powered by the fast and precise ICM-20948 IMU.

Pipo Range: A modern take on the Theremin

Pipo Range measures distance using a high-performance Time-of-Flight sensor (alike LIDAR).
It offers fast, accurate detection and has good resistance to ambient light.

Use it like a theremin with your hands for expressive control (up to ~.75 cm), or as a proximity sensor with people or objects (up to ~2.5–3 m).
It uses the VL53L1CB multizone sensor.

Pipo Analog: Capacitive touch and voltage inputs

Pipo Analog is a versatile input hub for building custom interfaces and interactive objects using widely available components, modules or materials.
It offers 16 input channels:

All voltage inputs are protected and have solder pads for direct connection.
Four of the inputs offer a selectable voltage range (3.3V / 5V / 12V) for compatibility with multiple standards.
Breakout adapters from Grove to screw terminals and solder pads are included for flexible connectivity with anything you already have at hand.

An open, community-oriented project

Pipo software is open source, and the project is built with community input in mind. If you have questions, ideas or want to contribute, join us on Discord.

The full firmware and web UI code will be published after the campaign is funded. The 3D models of the cases will also be available.

The firmware is built using PlatformIO and the Arduino framework for accessibility and ease of customization.
The web interface front-end is written in Svelte—a modern, lightweight JavaScript framework.

Pipo aims to become a robust and reusable framework for all to build creative tools.
We envision a larger ecosystem of sensors and output modules, powered by the same foundation.

Manufacturing Plan

Pipo production will follow two steps:

  1. Board and case production by trusted manufacturing partners.
  2. Final assembly and quality testing at our workshop in Brussels, Belgium.

All partners are confirmed and ready to begin production.

Fulfillment & Logistics

Once production is complete, all units will be shipped to Crowd Supply’s fulfillment partner, Mouser Electronics, for distribution. Mouser will handle worldwide delivery to backers. Learn more in Crowd Supply’s guide: Ordering, Paying, and Shipping.

Risks & Challenges

Pipo has undergone more than 1.5 years of prototyping, testing and refinement.
The current design is reliable and optimized for manufacturing.

We’ve chosen common components and standard processes (SMD-only PCBA) to minimize risks. However, hardware always brings some uncertainty. Ongoing trade tensions and tariff changes may impact pricing and timelines, but we’re prepared to adapt as needed.
We’ll keep backers informed if any delays arise.
